Which explains the year of silence from our agency with no placements for us. (We didn't know we were on the back-burner about this, either.) So, yeah, pregnancy while adopting isn't always the easiest for the adoption process.Rachel Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06652608705204867306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6922698531353636335.post-61737121972498004592014-04-10T00:38:49.506-07:002014-04-10T00:38:49.506-07:00Can I join you on your 9-month vacation, Shelby? Yes, I have friends that have had a surprise pregnancy after an adoption placement, but that does NOT mean it will happen to everyone! A couple of months after we paid the big fee for our international missy, I did get pregnant, and our adoption process slowed to a crawl. (No infertility was involved, we are adopting because we love our little girl...) anyway, baby is now 5 months old and the adoption process drags along. I love my two boys, and #2 came at just the right time for so many reasons, but dang if missy hasn't been stuck in an orphanage so much longer because of it.
So... Don't say that to adoptive parents... Just leave it in God's hands, k? He knows what He's doing.MamaVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08592074818731602051noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6922698531353636335.post-47276233594616542972014-04-09T07:37:14.621-07:002014-04-09T07:37:14.621-07:00I never liked that phrase for many of the reasons ...I never liked that phrase for many of the reasons that you listed. Today you Have given me a few new ones too. It reminds me of the "just relax... Stop thinking about it ... Go on vacation... And you'll get pregnant." Always ironic when said to me since I've already been pregnant 4 times, clearly the issue is staying that way. Do I go on a 9 month vacation?

Just another one of those very unhelpful pieces of advice offered up way too often. We hear it all the time too, and it's stupid for all the reasons you describe. I would add to it that many infertile people have conditions that make pregnancy difficult (like me, or you), but others (like two different friends of mine) have conditions where pregnancy is impossible. Like, not .01% chance, but not possible. They are sterile, for various reasons. They are both adoptive parents, but they are still sterile and this will never change. So less you inadvertently speak to someone in that situation, just keep your mouth shut with getting pregnant and be happy for the new addition.Emiliehttp://www.emiliebishop.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6922698531353636335.post-74382623595073843182014-04-09T05:54:12.583-07:002014-04-09T05:54:12.583-07:00Wow amazing.
